Once you’ve had your fill of gossip from the magazines I talked about last issue, you might like to stretch your legs and go and do a bit of shopping. But if you’re looking for Buffy merchandise, where should you start? We all know how tiring it can be to visit shop after shop looking for something and then it ends up being in the first place you looked, you just weren’t looking in the right section. So this issue I thought I’d cover some of the best places for Buffy merchandise – if I were looking, these are the first places I’d go!

Forbidden Planet

A shop that every fan should visit at least once, although once you’ve been, you’ll keep going back! FP is probably the best known cult store in the UK, and stocks everything from posters, postcards and books, to comics, back issues of magazines, figures and games. As well as this, FP occasionally have signing sessions in which cult TV stars – often Buffy or Angel – sit in store and sign. Recent guests have been Tony Head and James Marsters, and although for popular guests you could be queuing for hours, it’s usually really worth it! Forbidden Planet have stores in Leeds, London, Newcastle, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Coventry, Croydon, Dartford, Liverpool and Southampton, and should always be every JossFan’s first stop!

Boredom Free Zone

I found this shop in the Princes Mall in Edinburgh while there with friends this summer, and I’ve got to tell you, it certainly does exactly what it says on the tin! The store sells T-Shirts, cups, glasses, figurines, and much more, as well as limited edition stills from certain shows. The best part – for me – has to be the wide selection of lifesize cardboard cut-outs of stars ranging from SMG and David Boreanaz to Lord of the Rings characters, Star Wars cutouts and even some cartoon characters! Unfortunately they don’t yet have a website, but the nice man in the shop assured me they were working on it! Definitely worth a look if you ever happen to be in Edinburgh!

Waterstones and Borders

‘What, BOOKSHOPS?’ I hear you cry. Well, yes, bookshops. Because you might have noticed the absolutely humungous collection of Buffy books available, and if you’re a fan with money to spend, you really should visit one! These two are good places to start if you’re looking for novels, script books, series guides or even graphic novels – and borders stock a lot of other things, like DVDs, videos, the two currently available soundtracks, and even the board games!

After that, it’s up to you where you go! British Home Stores and many other clothes shops stock Buffy pyjamas. A lot of newsagents sell the magazines. Dip into many of the shops on any British highstreet and you will likely find something Buffy related in at least a few of them – but at least now you have a starting point!
