Complicated

By Rach

Setting: Sometime while Syd & Vaughn are together.
Pairing: Syd/Will
Rating: PG
Challenge: They have a fight because Will's jealous... (you choose why) ...then they make up ;)
Disclaimer: I own nothing, and probably never will!
Note: Okay, so it’s not set at New Year like you asked because it was too complicated, and I liked this idea but couldn’t figure out when New Year was and if it would work, so it’s just a regular drabble. Also, it’s not exactly New Year anymore! *g* Hope you like!

“Will, I thought you and Vaughn got along? He likes you, that’s for sure!” Sydney opened the door to her apartment and dumped her bag of groceries on the counter.

“We did! We do! I just …” Will sighed. “I just think maybe you’re spending too much time with him. I mean, it’s not exactly encouraged in the agency, is it? What you two are doing?”

“Vaughn and I can handle ourselves, Will.” She unpacked the groceries as she spoke, moving quickly before she blew up at him.

“That’s what I’m worried about,” he muttered.

Sydney slammed down a can onto the counter. “Right, that’s it. I won’t have you coming into my home and criticising my relationships. You’re not my mother, you don’t own me. I don’t owe you any explanations for how I act or who I see. I owe you nothing.” She sighed and took a deep breath. “I don’t want to fight with you, Will … maybe you should go.” As he opened his mouth to protest, she shook her head. “I’ll see you later.”

Will watched as Syd headed into her bedroom and closed the door. He started to head towards the hallway, but stopped himself short. Instead, he turned around and walked towards Syd’s door, knocking gently and opening it before she had chance to reply. She was sitting on her bed, her back to the door, and she didn’t make any effort to turn around, so he walked in.

“Syd, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interfere, I just –“

“Vaughn and I aren’t seeing each other any more.” She said it so softly that Will barely heard her.

“What?!” He asked, incredulously.

She nodded. “We decided it was going to be too difficult.” She paused. “That’s why I went off at you. Everyone told us it wouldn’t work, but we were both so stubborn we had to try. I didn’t want to tell people they were all right.”

Will sat down on the bed next to her and wrapped his arm around her. “I’m so sorry. I had no idea.”

She laid her head on his shoulder and sighed. “Of course you didn’t. That’s the point. I’m just so used to keeping secrets, compartmentalizing everything … I can’t tell people the things I know I should.”

Will smiled a little. “Syd, don’t hate me.”

“What? Why would I-“ she was silenced as Will kissed her softly, trailing his fingers along her shoulder. As he pulled away, she noticed the smile on his face.

“I just wanted you to know that not everything has to be complicated. Sometimes, things can be just about the moment.”
